Rams softball closes fall tourney 3-0-1

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team finished the Triple Crown Fall College Classic 3-0-1 after defeating Regis and Adams State on the first day of action, before topping Fort Lewis and tying Metro State on Sunday afternoon at Ram Field.
The Rams beat the Skyhawks 5-1 in the first game of the day and tied the Roadrunners 3-3 in the second game.
Colorado State scored three runs with two outs in the third inning to grab a 5-1 advantage against Fort Lewis, while the Rams’ pitching staff allowed one run on three hits against the Skyhawks.
Colorado State and Metro State remained tied until the top of the sixth inning when senior Rebecca Penland hit a two-run home run to right field to plate senior Allison Majam, who doubled earlier in the inning.
The Rams added another run in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Metro State tied the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run home run by junior Jennessa Tesone.
Sophomore Kelli Eubanks recorded the final two outs to secure a 3-3 tie with the Roadrunners.
Overall during the tournament, the Rams scored 20 runs while only allowing only six runners to cross home plate.
Colorado State continues fall exhibition play Saturday with a doubleheader against in-state rival Northern Colorado. First pitch is set for noon, followed by a 2 p.m. start for Game 2. The Rams conclude their fall season on Saturday, Oct. 11 in the annual Alumnae game.
