FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State’s tennis team has received several prestigious national academic honors, the International Tennis Association (ITA) announced recently.

Three student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status, Tori Arneson, Melissa Holzinger and Laura Neal. What’s more, the Rams as a team are one of only 33 Division I programs in the nation to receive the ITA’s team academic recognition.

Neal, the Rams’ No. 1 singles player in 2009-10, graduated this past spring with a 4.000 grade-point average and a degree in health & exercise science. She enrolled over the summer in graduate school, pursuing a master’s degree in physical therapy.

Arneson, who will be a junior this season, competed all of 2009-10 as CSU’s No. 2 singles player. Also a health & exercise science major, she has a 3.726 GPA.

Holzinger in her first season with the CSU program last year led the team in winning percentage (16-10) as a lower-lineup singles player. A human development & family studies major, she enters her final year of college eligibility with a 3.888 GPA.

The Rams as a team completed the 2009-10 academic year with a cumulative 3.353 GPA. The team award goes to any ITA program that has a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or above. All ITA Scholar-Athletes must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.5 and have been enrolled at their current school for at least two semesters.
