LINCOLN, Neb. - The Colorado State women's tennis team sustained a 6-1 loss to No. 26 Nebraska on Saturday morning at the Nebraska Tennis Center.

The loss moves the Rams to 2-4 on the season. Nebraska improves to 7-1.

After dropping six consecutive team points, the Rams finally notched their first dual point as Veronika Wojakowska at No. 4 singles defeated her opponent in straight sets.

In doubles, CSU quickly submitted a loss at No. 3 as newcomers Lauren Pick and Kaitlin Wooldridge fell, 8-1, to their Nebraska opponents.

Soon after, Lauren Mulhern and Kaley Schultz found themselves defeated, 8-3. The Rams wrapped up doubles play as Caitlin Fluegge and Tori Arneson registered an 8-4 loss.

Colorado State remained stagnant as singles matches began. First off the courts for the Rams was Schultz, a freshman, after a near sweep, 6-0, 6-1.  CSU sustained two more losses as Mulhern fell, 6-3, 6-1, and Fluegge, 6-2, 6-2.

Fluegge's loss clinched the Huskers’ win over CSU as Nebraska took a quick 4-0 lead.

Unfortunately, Nebraska did not stop there as the Huskers went on to defeat the Rams at Nos. 2 and 6. Arneson was the fourth match to finish, and was defeated, 6-1, 6-0, despite her extended play.

Melissa Holzinger also put up a good fight as she nearly knocked off her Nebraska opponent, before falling 7-5 in the first set. Unfortunately, she fell in the final set, 6-0.

It was Wojakowska that was finally able to halt the Huskers’ efforts at sweeping the Rams. Sliding through the first set, Wojakowska quickly clinched a win, 6-3. The second set was another story as the competition rose. Luckily, Wojakowska was able to continue her exceptional play as she defeated her UN opponent, 7-6.

Despite the Rams' sole win for the day, Colorado State kicked up play a little to get match tough for its second dual of the weekend, Sunday.

The Rams return to the courts Sunday morning at 10 a.m. MST to face off against Creighton. Match play will resume in Lincoln, Neb., at the Nebraska Tennis Center.

Colorado State's next home match will be Kid's Day, held Saturday against Montana State, at 6 p.m. MST. The match will be offered free to the public and will take place indoors at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness, 901 Oakridge Dr. in south Fort Collins behind Sam's Club.
