CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Rams lost both of their games on Saturday at the USF Under Armour Showcase. They first faced Massachusetts, falling 7-1, and later fell to Connecticut, 17-4, in five innings at Eddie C. Moore Complex.

The losses bring CSU’s overall record to 4-19 and bring its current losing streak to four games. In the game against reigning Atlantic 10-champion Massachusetts (5-10, 0-0 A-10), the Rams were held to three hits for the third consecutive game. CSU sophomore Brianna Donahue collected the Rams’ first hit with a single to right-center field in the third inning.

CSU’s only run came from freshman Emily Pohl, who led off the seventh inning with her team-leading eighth home run of the season. Freshman Chelsea Biglow followed Pohl with a single to shortstop.

CSU freshman Alexa Cash started her seventh game of the season for the Rams, pitching all seven innings and giving up four earned runs with four strikeouts.

The Rams later scored four runs and collected seven hits against Connecticut (7-7, 0-0 Big East), but the Huskies’ offense was too much for CSU to overcome.

Junior Lyssa Roberts began the Rams’ three-run first inning with a single up the middle, bringing in freshman Morghan Doughty from second. Senior Caitlan Stem followed with a double to left-center to score Roberts. Biglow came to the plate two batters later and doubled to left field, scoring Stem from second.

The Rams scored another run in the third, when freshman Alysa Greckel singled to right field, bringing in sophomore pinch runner Kelli Groy from third.

Sophomore Kelsey Jo O’Brien started on the mound for CSU, making her 11th start and 15th appearance of the season. O’Brien went 2.1 innings and relinquished the Huskies’ first seven runs. Freshman Desiree Laswell entered the game in the third inning in relief. Five of Connecticut’s 10 following runs were charged to Laswell.

CSU will wrap up play at the USF Under Armour Showcase on Sunday against Long Island University at 10 a.m. MT. The Rams will then remain in Clearwater to take on Boston University twice on Tuesday and No. 19 Texas Tech on Thursday.
