FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Rams’ struggles continued on Saturday at Ram Field as they lost to Mountain West rival New Mexico in a 13-5 decision in five innings. The team also wore pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness.

With the loss, CSU’s overall record is 7-32 (0-4 MWC), while the Lobos improve to 16-17 (2-2 MWC). The game marked the third straight in which the Rams have been outscored by eight or more runs to end the game in five innings.

The Rams scored four runs in the third inning to tie the game, 4-4. Freshman Morghan Doughty hit her second triple of the season to score freshman Jessica Barrett from first. Doughty later scored on an error by New Mexico second-baseman Chelsea Anaya.

CSU freshman Chelsea Biglow tied the game with a two-run home run to left field, her fifth of the year.

On the pitching side, the Rams used three of the four players on their pitching staff. Freshman Alexa Cash started the game, pitching three innings and giving up four earned runs.

Freshman Desiree Laswell entered the game in the fourth and gave up eight runs, seven of them earned. With the bases loaded and nobody out, sophomore Kelsey Jo O’Brien replaced Laswell, but the Lobos continued to score when O’Brien issued three straight walks upon entering the game. Laswell received the losing decision.

“We’re making a lot of changes this week, so the idea was kind of to just get all three of them out there and try to get them comfortable with some of the changes we’re making for them,” CSU Head Coach Jen Fisher said. ”We’re just trying to refocus on their mechanics and kind of start from scratch.”

The Rams will take on the Lobos again on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.

“We feel like we’ve definitely bottomed out and we’ve got to make the changes now,” Fisher said. “Offensively, we’ve just got to put together some runs and get those RBIs in those clutch situations. I don’t think it’s a lack of effort, I think we’ve just got to keep going back, watching film and we’ve got to keep coming back after it.”
