FORT COLLINS, Colo.--The Colorado State women's basketball team came back to win against the New Mexico Lobos, 61-54, on Wednesday night at Moby Arena. This is the first time the Rams have been 4-1 to start the conference since the 2001-02 season.

New Mexico (6-13, 0-5) started the game on a 12-2 run by shooting two three-pointers. CSU (8-12, 4-1) found their own rhythm and lead at halftime. In the first half, Colorado State's field goal percentage went from 12.5 on the first nine shots to 66.7 on the final 18 shots of the half.

"They hit a lot of shots," said junior Meghan Heimstra. "But we stayed in the game. They'd go on runs, and we'd go on runs."

Senior Kim Mestdagh scored 19 points and had three steals and three assists.

"In the second half I let the game come to me," said Mestdagh.

Heimstra recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals while playing 28 minutes.

"Tonight was a struggle," said Head Coach Kristen Holt. "We were out of sync. But I thought our energy was good. I really liked Meghan's energy coming off the bench especially."

With three minutes to go in the game, Mestdagh hit a three-pointer to take the Rams biggest lead of the night to put the game out of reach for New Mexico.

"We have to find a way to keep the lead," said Mestdagh. "Sometimes we make it hard on ourselves."

Martin scored 15 points and seven rebounds while in foul trouble. She only played eight minutes in the second half. Sophomore Hayley Thompson recorded seven rebounds. Freshman LaDeyah Forte registered six assists.

"We're pretty excited going into the next game," said Heimstra.

The Rams will play at San Diego State in a fight for first place on Jan. 28. Tip is set for 1 p.m. Then Colorado State will head home and play UNLV on Feb. 1.
