COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State junior Kacie McCarthy was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for games through May 12, the conference announced Tuesday. The honor marks McCarthy’s third this season.
McCarthy, who ended the season with a 17-8 record, went 2-0 in the Rams’ three-game series against MW-rival New Mexico, appearing in all three games. The Shingletown, Calif., native opened the series with a complete-game, five-inning shutout in Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader, surrendering three hits and two walks while striking out six en route to the 8-0 victory. McCarthy then came back to pitch 6.2 innings of relief in the nightcap, giving up two runs (one earned) and six walks with four strikeouts as the Rams rallied for the 6-5 victory.
On Friday, McCarthy pitched the final two innings of the series finale and did not allow a run in CSU’s 10-5 win over the Lobos. McCarthy finished the weekend with a 0.51 earned run average in 13.2 innings pitched. She allowed six hits while striking out 12 and walking 10.
McCarthy was named MW Co-Pitcher of the Week along with Boise State’s Aubray Zell on March 27 and received sole pitching honors on April 4.
