LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Colorado State softball team concluded its six-game road trip on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Long Beach State. The Rams (13-14) went 4-2 on the trip, and will now return home to host the CSU Spring Tournament, which begins Friday at Ram Field.

Both teams were held scoreless into the fifth inning before the 49ers got on the board with back-to-back hits.

The Rams, though, responded in their half of the sixth, scoring twice to take the lead. Emily Pohl began the inning with a leadoff walk. Two batters later Alysa Greckel sacrificed pinch runner Lauren Snodgrass to second.

CSU got on the board the next batter when Kendal Butterfield singled to center—the team’s first hit of the game—to score Snodgrass. Butterfield was then plated by Taylor Hutton’s single to right to give the Rams the 2-1 lead.

The Rams were victorious despite piecing together just two hits on the day. On the trip, they relied on their pitching, never scoring more than three runs in a game, and never allowing more than four.

McCarthy picked up her 10th win of the season, striking out four, and allowing just four base runners. As a whole, CSU’s pitching staff surrendered just nine runs on the six-game road trip.

The CSU Spring Tournament—which features Ball State, CSU, Columbia and Marist—begins Friday at 9 a.m. MT. CSU’s first game will begin approximately at 1:30 p.m. Admission to all games at Ram Field is free.
