FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's soccer program achieved history on Friday night, as the team earned the program's first win in school history with a 3-0 victory over Lubbock Christian University.

"It was a weird feeling," Head Coach Bill Hempen said of the team's first win. "This is a brand new team, and there were moments where it was chaotic and moments where it looked like they had played together all their lives. It was something that was truly unique and special."

The Rams (1-0) jumped on the Chaps early on in the match when freshman midfielder Carly Seib rebounded a shot and put it into the back of the net in just the sixth minute, scoring the first goal in CSU history.

Colorado State kept control of the match in the first half, constantly putting pressure on Lubbock Christian and maintaining possession. The Rams out-shot the Chaps 15-5 in the first half alone.

The second half of play went just as the first half did, as the Rams continued to attack relentlessly. In the 53rd minute, Sasha Pchenitchnikova added to the team's lead, sliding the ball past the goalie with her left foot.

Just eight minutes later, CSU tacked on another when Jessica Stauffer was able to find Erika Bratschun who finished it off to give the team a 3-0 lead with under 30 minutes to play.

"At halftime, we challenged ourselves to keep the quality of play at a very high level," Hempen said. "Erika Bratschun was quite good in the second half and scored a highlight-reel goal coming off the assist from (Jessica) Stauffer.

From there, the Rams relied on their solid defense which limited the scoring opportunities for Lubbock Christian, allowing just 11 shots in the whole match and seven on goal.

"The back four was great," Hempen said of his veteran-led defense. "Jessica (Stauffer), Jami (Vaughn), Megan (Speed) and Catherine (Ruder), they are rocks back there. They were in complete control and those kids did a great job."

Freshman goalie Elena Eidson looked comfortable making her debut in front of the net, notching a clean sheet and recording seven saves.

The Rams will stay in Lubbock as they take on No. 24 Texas Tech (1-0) on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT.
