Final Stats

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - After winning seven-consecutive games last week in the state of Colorado, the Rams took their winning streak outside of state borders, defeating Iona, 6-0, on Friday morning to begin the Cal State Northridge Tournament. The win was CSU's second shutout of the season.

The Rams (15-12) got on the board in the second inning, and scored three times in the third to take control of the game. They added two more in the sixth for good measure.

"We played errorless defense, which was great," Head Coach Jen Fisher said. "The girls have been working hard to get wins, so it feels great to play defense like that after going through some growing pains. We're starting to get more comfortable with each other."

Freshman Trinity Harrington earned her second-career victory, striking out six in the complete-game shutout. Harrington allowed just three hits and didn't surrender a walk. The Gaels (1-6) didn't get on base for the first time until the third inning, and didn't reach scoring position until the final inning.

"Trinity was dealing," Fisher said. "She was a couple inches away from a perfect game. She was really in sync, wasn't throwing hardly any balls and I think gave the rest of the team confidence."

Senior Taylor Hutton led off the second inning with an infield single and advanced on Jaelyn Manzanares' walk. Both got into scoring position via stolen bases, but Iona got the next two hitters out. The Gaels couldn't get out of the inning unscathed, though, walking Haley Hutton and Haley David to bring in a run.

In the third, freshman Savannah Clark and Taylor Hutton hit back-to-back one-out doubles. Clark scored on a Manzanares groundout, while Hutton came in when freshman Madison Kilcrease tripled to left-center. She scored a batter later on an Iona fielding error. CSU's two runs in the sixth came when senior Shae Rodriguez doubled to right-center to score Haley Hutton and David, who both singled. Six Rams recorded hits, including two hits by both David and Taylor Hutton.

"We were very patient at the plate," Fisher said. "We drew a lot of walks and limited our strikeouts, and got runners in scoring position and executed pretty well."

Day 2 of the tournament begins Saturday morning, with CSU facing Bryant at 9:30 a.m. MT and Buffalo at 2:30 p.m.
