LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Colorado State women's tennis team won their sixth match of the season Saturday afternoon after defeating Cal State Los Angeles, 7-2. The Rams have now won the most matches in a single season since 2011, when the team won nine matches.

Saturday wraps up CSU's spring break road trip in California, of which the Rams won three of four.

For the second time this road trip, CSU participated in the NCAA D-II scoring system on Saturday afternoon, which awards one point for each victory.

In doubles play, the Rams took two of three matches, winning at No. 1 and No. 2. Rams seniors Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska defeated the Golden Eagles (9-8), and the No. 2 duo of Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter secured the second victory (8-5). The Colorado State No. 3 pair of Maddie Buxton and Laia Hernandez Soler were unable to wrap up the match and were defeated (9-8).

The Rams led the match 2-1 going into singles play.

CSU grabbed victory in five of the six singles matches against the Golden Eagles. The Rams clinched early victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Heffron in the No. 1 position defeated her opponent (6-4, 6-1), and Wojakowska won in straight sets (7-5, 6-1). The Rams snagged victories from No. 4 singles player Aina Hernandez Soler (6-4, 6-4), No. 5 Maddie Buxton (6-4, 6-3), and No. 6 Madison Porter (4-6, 6-4 (3)).

CSU's Laia Hernandez Soler was defeated in singles play in the No. 3 spot (3-6, 7-5 (7)).

"We found a way to win," said Colorado State head coach Jon Messick. "In singles, we played solid at No. 1 and No. 2, and we lost a close one at No. 3. We won competitive matches at 4, 5 and 6. I thought that Madison (Porter) really competed today and came back to win her match in the tiebreak".

Colorado State returns to Fort Collins for the week before visiting Mountain West foes Boise State on March 27, and Utah State on March 29.
