COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado State sophomore Haley Hutton was named to the 2015 Mountain West Softball All-Conference second team on Tuesday, her second honor in a row. She is the sixth player in CSU history to be selected to the All-MW team as both a freshman and a sophomore.
"Haley is a great player and a great person," Head Coach Jen Fisher said. "For all of the things she does on the diamond and the spectacular plays she makes, she's an even better person. She's humble and she's a motivator; she makes her teammates better. I'm sure Haley is appreciative of this honor, but she wants to win, and I'm confident that by having her on the field for the next two years we'll continue to get better and will have more players represented alongside her in the future."
Hutton started all 56 games for the Rams, leading the team with a .363 batting average, .482 on-base percentage and .469 slugging percentage. Her 65 hits, 44 runs scored and 84 total bases were additionally team highs, also adding 26 RBI and eight stolen bases. Hutton's 34 walks were tied for the most in the MW this season and rank second in CSU single-season history. She also ranked sixth in the MW for runs and eighth for on-base percentage. Hutton led all fielders with 175 assists at shortstop, her first at that position after playing second base as a freshman.
"It's always such a special honor to be recognized by other coaches," Hutton said. "It's nice to know that your hard work has been paying off, and I'm very thankful for that. I'm also excited for these next two years at CSU; this season was kind of a learning season for all of us, but I think we have a lot of potential and that more of us can be recognized in the years to come."
The native of Platteville, Colo., is on pace to finish her career ranked first in CSU's all-time record book for batting average, hits, runs scored and walks, and second for games played, games started, and total at-bats.
The Rams finished their 2015 campaign with a 27-29 record, winning 11-consecutive games midway through the season -- the program's longest win streak since 2003. Other season highlights include senior Molly Randle's no-hitter on Feb. 14 and Fisher's 100th win as a Ram on Feb. 21. CSU graduates five seniors, but is expected to return a large portion of its production, including 88 percent of the team's innings pitched. Six freshmen made their collegiate debuts in 2015, totaling 127 starts.
