SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Colorado State women’s tennis program and two of the Rams’ individual standouts – junior Maddie Buxton and sophomore Madison Porter - were honored Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for academic excellence when the organization released its list of All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes.
“Our program continues to promote excellence in the classroom as well as on the court,” said head coach Jon Messick. “We are extremely proud of the way our student-athletes take care of their academic commitments at such a high level.”
Colorado State was listed among 151 NCAA Division I programs to earn the designation as an ITA All-Academic Team in 2015, marking the sixth-consecutive season that the Rams’ tennis program recorded a cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better to earn a spot on the list.
In addition to the team honor, Buxton, a journalism and technical communications major from Eden Prairie, Minn., and Porter, a health and exercise science major from Parker, Colo., were recognized among the 729 Division I women’s tennis players to earn Scholar-Athlete status with a GPA of 3.5 of better. Buxton was also tabbed with the same award in 2014, while Tuesday’s honor marked the first for Porter.
