Bridgette Hutton

CSU falls to No. 25 California, 2-1

2/27/2016 12:00:00 AM | Softball

Feb. 27, 2016

Haley Hutton. Hutton stole second, and then advanced home on an error by California to cut the Golden Bears' lead in half to 2-1. Madison Kilcrease walked and advanced to second base, but the Rams could not advance her further.

Freshman pitcher Bridgette Hutton made her second career start in the circle for CSU, and allowed just the two runs on nine hits in a complete game. CSU only tallied two hits on offense, with Kristina Akiona doubling in the bottom of the first. Kilcrease produced a pair of walks at the plate to also reach base twice.

IN THEIR WORDS...
"I liked our fight. We played some really good defense and Bridgette of course pitched well today, we just kind of ran into a buzzsaw over these three games." - CSU Head Coach Jen Fisher on her team's efforts and results over the first three games of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (all three opponents are either ranked or receiving votes in major polls)

"There's a lot of frustration because they're competitors and want to win. But they're sticking together as a team and continue to cheer each other on. They're sticking to their usual pre-game rituals. I really liked our warm up and batting practice today, and I really do believe that we can learn from these tough early games and be a better team headed into conference play." - Fisher on the status of her team through the first 13 games of the season.

NOTES...
- CSU has already played five games against ranked teams this season - Texas A&M, UCLA (twice), Missouri and California.
- Bridgette Hutton recorded her first complete game at the collegiate level, in her second career start.
- Haley Hutton scored her seventh run of the season, which leads the team. Hutton has scored in six different games this season, and boasts an on base percentage of .521.
- Kristina Akiona's double in the first inning was her third of the season, which leads the team.
