FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams have added another player to its 2016-17 freshman class, with outfielder Taylor Ward joining the squad.

Ward hails from Manteca, California, where she attended East Union High School and played for the Norcal Firecrackers Baisdon club team.

“She’s from northern California and we got to her kind of late, but we’re really excited about her,” Head Coach Jen Fisher said. “She’s very athletic and a well-rounded outfielder. We expect her to come in and help us in the outfield. We saw her play this fall and we were lucky that she was still available. She’s a tough out at the plate and a good student and a really great fit for us.”

The 2016 team captain lettered all four years in high school in softball. She led her team to league titles in 2014 and 2015, as well as a 2015 section championship. In 2015, East Union won the Division 3 state championship in the state of California.

Individually, Ward was named to the All-Valley Oak League and all-area teams twice. In 2015, Ward hit .460 with six home runs and 28 RBI in 33 games.

Ward also excelled in the classroom, landing on the Principal’s List at East Union every year in high school. In addition to softball, Ward lettered twice in volleyball.
