FORT COLLINS, Colo. -
The Colorado State Rams dropped a pair of games to the New Mexico Lobos on Friday at Ram Field, despite a pair of home runs from freshman Amber Nelson.

Colorado State - 3 (6)
Box Score

New Mexico scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away from CSU and ultimately win, 14-3, in the first game of the day at Ram Field.

Lobos catcher Chelsea Johnson hit a grand slam in the sixth inning (her second home run of the contest), and Jade Gray added a solo shot to propel New Mexico.

The Rams held a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Haley Hutton singled down the left field line to lead off for CSU, and promptly stole second to get into scoring position. Taryn Arcarese singled to score Hutton, and Arcarese would later score from second herself after a single by Kristina Akiona.

After the Lobos tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second, CSU regained its lead at 3-2 after another RBI single from Arcarese allowed Hayleigh Evans to score. Evans had entered the game as a pinch runner for Savannah Clark after Clark singled to lead off the inning.

CSU was held scoreless after taking its 3-2 lead. New Mexico took the lead for good in the top half of the third, scoring three runs to go up 5-3.

New Mexico - 7
Colorado State - 6
Box Score

CSU scored four runs across the final two innings, but could not complete the comeback in a 7-6 loss in the second game of the day against New Mexico.

After Haley Hutton singled through the right side of the infield to open the bottom of the seventh, Jaelyn Manzanares stepped to the plate and belted a home run to right field to pull the Rams within one run. CSU's next two batters were unable to reach base, however, putting an end to the home team's comeback attempt.

Amber Nelson hit two home runs in the game, including a critical two-run blast in the sixth inning to slice New Mexico's lead to 6-4 at the time. Nelson also led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer, putting CSU up 1-0.

New Mexico put together a five-run third inning to gain its first lead of the game at 5-2. The Lobos also scored one run in both the fifth and seventh innings.

The game featured a three-hour rain delay from 2:46-5:46 p.m. MT. The game was stopped with one out in the top of the seventh, with the Lobos leading 7-4.

IN THEIR WORDS...
"They were disappointed in themselves with the way they came out in that first game. They decided they didn't want to squander the opportunity, and I felt like Haley and Jaelyn really came out swinging it. I just wish we could have gotten a couple more baserunners aboard." - Head Coach Jen Fisher on her team's comeback attempt in game 2 after a tough first game

"She's really doing a nice job for us, and at a young age. I hope she continues that and stays consistent and I am confident that she will. Hopefully whatever she has right now is contagious and some other players will catch it, too." - Fisher on the great offensive performances lately by freshman Amber Nelson

STAT OF THE DAY...
90 - Haley Hutton drew one walk in the second game of the day, giving her 90 career walks. The junior now holds the all-time career record in the category.

NOTES...
- The top of the order excelled at the plate for the Rams, with Haley Hutton and Taryn Arcarese going a combined 5-for-5 in the first game of the day.
- New Mexico pitcher Lisa Rodrigues entered the game in the third inning and held CSU scoreless for four frames, allowing only two hits to pick up her second win of the season.
- Amber Nelson hit two home runs in the second game of the doubleheader, marking the first time this season a CSU player has had a multi-homer game.

NEXT...
The Rams are scheduled to host New Mexico for the final game of the series at 1 p.m. MT tomorrow at Ram Field.
