CSU tied the score late, but San Diego State won in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the first game of the day, 3-2.

Freshman Amber Nelson tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning, doubling to left-center. Kristina Akiona and Sierra Galbreath each scored on the play. Galbreath was a pinch runner for Jaelyn Manzanares, who singled earlier in the inning, and Akiona reached on a fielding error.

Facing an 0-2 count with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, the Aztecs took advantage of an infield error by the Rams to score the game-winning run.

The Aztecs took the lead in the first inning with a two-run home run.

In the second game of the day, it was the Rams that came up with late-game heroics to pull away with a 6-4 victory over the Aztecs.

CSU trailed 4-3 heading into the final inning, but loaded the bases with one out to give freshman Lauren Buchanan the chance to at least tie the game for the Rams. Buchanan did not disappoint, and wound up giving CSU the lead with a two-run double to left-center, scoring Larisa Petakoff and Jaelyn Manzanares, vaulting the Rams into the lead for good at 5-4.

The Rams loaded the bases again, and Taryn Arcarese got hit by a pitch, advancing Maci Stouffer home to put CSU up 6-4.

Fellow freshman Amber Nelson put the Rams on the board first in the top of the first inning, doubling to right-center to score Haley Hutton. San Diego State answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first to go up 3-1.

CSU tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run double by Arcarese, scoring Hutton and and Madison Kilcrease.

Freshman pitcher Bridgette Hutton picked up her first Mountain West win with a four-hit complete game performance.

IN THEIR WORDS…
"We got a great performance from freshmen Amber Nelson and Lauren Buchanan. Both of them have a championship mentality. Amber has been on a hot streak lately, and Lauren really wanted to be put in that situation late. They both work so hard and you never to worry about their mentality." - Head Coach Jen Fisher said about freshmen Amber Nelson and Lauren Buchanan coming through in the clutch

"I thought we got great performances from both of our pitchers. Bridgette made some mental notes during that first game while watching and really used those to her advantage when she went to pitch in the second game. I also think Holly was only a pitch away from maybe winning that first game, so I think the pitching was solid today." - Fisher on the team's pitching, with Holly Reinke starting the first game and Bridgette Hutton the second

STAT OF THE DAY…
4 - CSU freshman pitcher Bridgette Hutton allowed only four hits in her complete game win on Friday.

NOTES…
- Haley Hutton was walked four times across the two games today, giving her 89 total walks for her career. Hutton, a junior, is now tied for the CSU career record with Emily Pohl (2011-14).
- Lauren Buchanan now has 20 RBI on the season, making her the sixth different CSU player to reach that plateau this season.
- Taryn Arcarese is now tied for the team lead with 22 RBI after picking up three in the second game on Friday.
- Jaelyn Manzanares went 3-for-4 in the second game and bolstered her batting average over the first eight games of conference play to .500.

NEXT…
