FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Colorado State softball team has announced the addition of Whitney Cloer to its coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Cloer comes to CSU after serving as the assistant coach and assistant general manager for the Scrap Yard Dawgs of National Pro Fastpitch, where she had been since last August. Her roles included coaching players and managing player personnel. She was also the director of strength and conditioning with Scrap Yard Sports for the same time period, helping with their players ages 13-18.
“The CSU Rams family has gained an exceptional young leader, coach, and community member in Whitney Cloer,” Head Coach Jen Fisher stated. “The committee was immediately impressed with her qualifications, professionalism, and passion for mentoring young women. Her experience with some of the top minds and programs in all of NCAA softball, as well as her background in exercise science, will certainly lead to great overall improvement of our student-athletes. Coach Cloer absolutely aligns with our values of engaging student-athletes in academics, sport, and community. We couldn't have found a more perfect fit. This is an exciting step for our softball program. As a very well-rounded and knowledgeable coach, she will likely contribute to all efforts on the field from offense to defense, and even pitching insight.”
Prior to working for the Scrap Yard Dawgs, Cloer was an assistant coach at Troy University from 2014-15 and volunteer assistant coach at Big 12 powerhouse Oklahoma from 2013-14. While Cloer was a Sooner, the Oklahoma coaching staff was named NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
Cloer was a standout catcher at Arkansas from 2005-09, earning four varsity letters and serving as team captain her junior and senior seasons.
“I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the CSU family, and I couldn’t be happier to work with Coach Fisher and her staff,” Cloer said. “I look forward to helping the student-athletes reach their full potential on and off the field. Under Coach Fisher’s leadership and guidance, the CSU program has a bright future and I am excited to help build upon that success.”
The Rams will begin exhibition play at the beginning of October at Ram Field. The entire fall preseason schedule can be found here.
