FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head softball coach, Jen Fisher, announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2019 roster on Thursday. Mackenzee Collins, Brenna Scudellari, Brookelyn Polenz and Makenzie Marie Miller will join the team following their final year of high school.
Brookelyn Polenz | Sterling, Colorado | Sterling HS | Short Stop
Polenz earned All-State Honorable Mention her sophomore year and All-State First Team her senior year. A three-time All-Conference selection, she was also named the team's best offensive player twice and best defensive player once. Besides playing softball, she was also a four-year letter winner in basketball and a two-year letter winner in track.
Chose Colorado State because… "I love the school and location. Colorado State is beautiful. I have also had family go to CSU and I am excited to continue my softball career at a D1 level."
Head Coach Fisher on Brooke… "Brooke is an exceptional local student-athlete who we have had our eye on for a few years now. She loves to compete in everything from softball, to basketball, to ladder golf & will lead our team right away – with her love of the sport. Brooke comes to us with exceptional leadership skills & maturity. She has played a lot of short stop and we expect her to push the upper classmen in every area with her speed, powerful bat and defensive versatility. Also an exceptional student, I fully expect Brooke to be a credit to our fine university."
Brenna Scudellari | Walnut Creek, California | Campo Verde HS | Infield
Scudellari is a three-year letter winner and carries a list of prep accolades into her career at Colorado State. The Walnut Creek native started her high school career earning All-Division Honorable Mention and Section IV All-Section Second Team honors. As a sophomore she was named First-Team All-East by the Valley Tribune and the Silver Slugger by Campo Verde. She also earned All-Division Second-Team and Section I All-Section First Team. Her junior season brought her Section IV All-Region Second-Team Honors.
Chose Colorado State because… "I chose Colorado State because I've known I wanted to go out of state for college and the minute I stepped on campus it was just another home away from home."
Head Coach Fisher on Brenna… "Brenna is a former teammate of Ashley Michelena, and someone who we feel very fortunate to have landed, since we locked in on her pretty late in the process. Brenna is another extremely well-rounded student & athlete, who will put pressure on the defense with her speed and left-handed bat. She also adds a great deal of versatility defensively. We are really looking forward to working with Brenna, as her enthusiasm for the sport and for Colorado State is contagious."
Mackenzee Collins | Whidbey Island, Washington | South Whidbey HS | Pitcher
The Whidbey Island native was named to the Cascade Conference First-Team, including earning Defensive Player of the Year last season. She was also the team captain. In academics she was the junior class Vice President and a National Honor Society member.
Chose Colorado State… "When I visited CSU I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful campus and Fort Collins. I love the big town with a small town feel. I have also always dreamed of playing on a high level, competitive, collegiate softball team, so CSU was the perfect fit for me."
Head Coach Fisher on Mackenzee… "With two senior pitchers graduating (Pierce & Petakoff), we will look for Mackenzee to come in and contribute right away. She is a powerful pitcher and intense competitor, who gains an extra advantage with her height. Academically, she will be a huge asset to our great university. Mackenzee is truly the whole package and I think young fans will enjoy looking up to this excellent role model in the coming years."
Makenzie Miller | Brentwood, California | Carondelet HS | Second/Outfield
Makenzie earned All-League Honorable Mention both her sophomore and junior seasons. She was also very active off the diamond participating in numerous groups and committees such as the Carondelet and De La Salle Respect committee and helped organize the Lenten Refugee Project.
Chose Colorado State… "I chose Colorado State because of the amazing environment the university has to offer. I love the big campus feel and the great athletic facilities. The academic opportunities are endless and I am so excited to thrive on and off the field at CSU."
Head Coach Fisher on Makenzie… "Makenzie has recently showed our staff that she would be a real asset and add even more depth to a strong 2019 class. Makenzie has a tremendous outlook on softball, school and life and I anticipate she will be a great teammate, as well as leader. She is one of those 'coachable' kids who will eagerly take on any position. She's got all the tools, speed, power, consistency, a solid arm, and a good glove. We are really looking forward to working with her and seeing what type of player she can become. She will be an excellent addition to our Ram Family."
Brookelyn Polenz | Sterling, Colorado | Sterling HS | Short Stop
