Recap: CSU drops second game against UNLV, 7-4

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State Rams took an early 4-0 lead, but the UNLV Rebels rallied back to ultimately take a 7-4 victory at Ram Field on Saturday.
UNLV (23-19, 6-8 MW) clinched the series with its second win in as many days over CSU (22-17, 7-10).
The Rams made quick work of the Rebels in the top of the first inning defensively, and then promptly loaded the bases themselves in the bottom half of the frame. CSU would take a 2-0 lead into the second following runs by Haley Hutton and Madison Kilcrease off RBIs from Amber Nelson and Lauren Buchanan.
CSU then doubled its lead the next inning, with Kilcrease recording a sacrifice fly to score Hayleigh Evans, and later an RBI single from Buchanan to drive in Hutton.
Evans singled in the third inning with two outs, but she would be the last baserunner for the Rams in the game as UNLV took control from there.
The Rebels scored once in the third and then tied the game with a three-run fourth inning.
UNLV broke the tie in the sixth inning, as left fielder Janine Petmecky knocked a bases-clearing, three-run double to the gap in left center to give the Rebels a 7-4 advantage.
NOTES…
- CSU scored in the first inning for the 22nd time this season, but could not pull off the win. The Rams are now 16-6 when scoring in the first frame.
- Lauren Buchanan tallied 2 RBI for CSU, her seventh multi-RBI performance this season.
- Haley Hutton scored a pair of runs, marking the 11th time this season she's scored multiple times in a contest.
NEXT…
CSU will finish its series against UNLV tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Ram Field. The game will be CSU's Pink Out, with 250 pink pom-poms given to fans.
