McCorkhill named NFCA Third Team All-Region

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - One day removed from earning her first career All-Mountain West honor, junior first baseman Hannah McCorkhill has been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Third Team All-Region, the organization announced Thursday.
McCorkhill finished the season tied for third in the league in home runs (12) and fourth in runs batted in (45). McCorkhill's home run total tied for the team lead with Amber Nelson, and was the most by a CSU player since 2008. Her RBI mark was the highest since 2014. McCorkhill finished the season with a .331 batting average and a .649 slugging mark.
The Riverside, Calif., native did her damage in bunches, leading the team with 15 multi-RBI games, including 5 RBIs against Texas Tech on May 6. McCorkhill's most dominant stretch came late in there year. Over seven games from April 21-May 6, she had batted .440 with a .960 slugging percentage with 14 RBIs and four homers.
McCorkhill entered 2017 with three career home runs and 17 RBIs over her first two seasons. The junior exploded with help from new hitting coach Whitney Cloer, posting four-times her career total in long balls this year.
It wasn't only McCorkhill's offense that shined this season. She led the MW with 377 putouts and was also among the league leaders in fielding percentage (.987).
McCorkhill is CSU's first all-region selection since 2014, when Haley Hutton, Holly Reinke and Chelsea O'Connor were all recognized.
