FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State Rams picked up a commitment from Trinidad State star shortstop Isabella Navarro, the team announced Thursday.
The Barnalill, N.M., native signed a National Letter of Intent to play at CSU beginning next season. Navarro will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Navarro was recently named the NJCAA DI Offensive Player of the Year by Fastpitch News after dominating the Trojans opponents all year long. She was also named a First Team All-American by the outlet.
She right-hander recorded an astounding 30 home runs and 93 RBI while hitting .511 over 60 games last season. Over two seasons at Trinidad State, Navarro totaled 47 homers, 144 RBI and hit .494 with a 1.022 slugging mark in 113 contests.
"Our staff and team is thrilled about the addition of such a quality player and person as Isabella Navarro," CSU head coach Jen Fisher said. "I believe that Bella fits right in with our department and team values. She will be an outstanding representative of Colorado State as an athlete, student, and a leader on this campus, just as she was at Trinidad State. I have had the pleasure of coaching (Trojans head coach) Steve Swazo's students in the past, and I can tell you that he is an outstanding judge of both talent and character."
Navarro will try to help replace what the Rams will lose in the middle of the infield for next season, with seniors Haley Hutton and Taryn Arcarese finishing their careers this spring.
"She reminds me very much of the two middle infielders that we just lost to graduation and we expect that Bella will help fill their shoes nicely," Fisher said. "We understand that there will be some adjustments to make, however our staff anticipates that her great eagerness and maturity, will make that process smooth and efficient. We couldn't be prouder of Bella's recent awards and feel quite fortunate to have the opportunity to welcome such an outstanding young woman to our university."
