Rams host Nevada in Senior Day match at Noon MT on Sunday to finish home schedule

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – The Colorado State women's soccer team fell to the UNLV Rebels, 3-0, in a Friday afternoon Mountain West match from CSU Soccer Field.

For the first 45 minutes of the match, Colorado State (5-8-4, 2-4-2 MW) was in control of possession, taking the first half's only two shots on goal and the only three corner kicks. Over that span, senior Makenzi Taylor forced UNLV keeper Emberly Sevilla to make a diving save to keep the ball out of the net in the eighth minute, while junior Caeley Lordemann registered the other shot on goal in the 42nd minute. Lordemann just missed the top of the net on a shot one minute before that.

CSU continued its momentum in the early stages of the second half, earning a corner kick in its opening minutes. However, the first shot that UNLV (10-5-3, 4-3-2 MW) took was the one that broke the scoreless drought. The Rebels' Amanda Galbraith played the ball from the left side into the box, where Michaela Morris nudged it to the foot of Georgia Kingman. The ball was then fired past CSU keeper Hunter Peifer to the back post to make it 1-0 in the 54th minute.

13 minutes later, UNLV leading scorer Caitlyn Kreutz extended her squad's lead to 2-0. Kreutz collected a ball from the Rebels' Katie Ballou in the box, dribbled in and beat Peifer high to the left. The Rebels tacked on their final tally in the 77th minute on a penalty kick goal from McKenna Sullivan.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Bill Hempen
"Out of the gate, I thought we were buzzing. We had a very clear chance early that didn't go in, which has kind of been us this season. I thought that could have been really big for us early. It's not for a lack of effort, but the lack of quality in that area has hurt us. We certainly had our opportunities, but we just didn't finish. Effort-wise we've been fine, but the execution in that part of that field has been our Achilles' heel."
