FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team has announced its 2019 schedule, which includes 24 games at home and two tournaments hosted at Ram Field.
"We're just coming off one of our most productive fall semesters that I have been a part of, since becoming a Ram in 2010," said head coach Jen Fisher. "The women have worked incredibly hard. We seem to be in an excellent space as far as explosive power, our depth both on the mound and at the plate and our overall team comradery. This is a highly dynamic group of athletes. They are a coachable group that is hungry for game knowledge and as such I fully expect to see continued growth throughout the season."
Seven different opponents will come to Fort Collins for the Rams' non-conference schedule, including Syracuse, Nebraska and Dayton. CSU will host its first tournament Feb. 28 – Mar. 2 and welcome Idaho State, Nebraska, Stony Brook and Santa Clara. The following weekend, the Rams will finish its non-conference slate hosting Wagner, Dayton and Syracuse.
Colorado State will start the season Feb. 8 at the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas. The Rams will face Abilene Christian, host Texas State, UTSA and North Dakota State in the three days.
CSU will follow that opening weekend heading to Stanford, Calif., for the Stanford Tournament Feb. 15-17 and play five games over the weekend against opponents, Pacific, Iowa State, Stanford and Portland State.
Before return to Colorado for their own tournaments, the Rams will play at the infamous Mary Nutter Tournament, Feb. 21-24 in Cathedral City, Calif. CSU will face a number of 'Power 5' opponents like Utah, Oklahoma State and UCLA, while also playing Bethune-Cookman and Cal Poly.
After the non-conference schedule, Colorado State will begin Mountain West action at Ram Field on Mar. 15-17 when it hosts Fresno State in the conference opening series. The Rams will host three other conference series during the season – Utah State (March 29-31), UNLV (April 12-14) and San Diego State (April 26-28).
Following the conference opener, CSU will head to New Mexico for its first MW road series, March 22-24. The Rams will also play at San Jose State (April 5-7), Nevada (April 18-20) and Boise State (May 3-5).
Sprinkled into the conference season, Colorado State will play a pair of non-conference opponents, facing Colorado rival Northern Colorado March 26 before hosting it on April 23 at Ram Field and finishing the regular season at BYU on May 6.
"We have an awesome schedule, that features home field advantage for nearly half of our contests," continued Fisher. "The lighter travel will be a great help to us, as well as the comfortability of playing in front of our home crowds. We also get to make the trip back to the desert to play in the highly prestigious 'Mary Nutter Classic' where we will face off with UCLA, as well as the Stanford Invite. These are both places that have historically been good for us. I'm excited for this schedule because of its balance, and its potential to really have us playing our best ball come Mountain West play in mid-March."
Colorado State finished the 2018 season 27-23 overall and made its first postseason appearance since 2003 with a bid to the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC). The Rams posted a 10-14 Mountain West record, which included a shutout at Fresno State for the first time ever at Margie Wright Diamond and their second win in series history in Fresno, Calif. CSU started the season 7-0 for its best start to a season since 1997.
