Rams pick up 65-59 road victory at Nevada on Saturday

2/3/2018 9:14:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Rams paced by Lore Devos (15 points), Hannah Tvrdy (14 points) and Annie Brady (12 points)

RENO, Nev. – The Colorado State women's basketball team tallied its fourth consecutive Mountain West victory on Saturday as the Rams defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack, 65-59, in a road contest at the Lawlor Events Center.

Lore Devos, Hannah Tvrdy and Annie Brady each finished in double-figure scoring to pace Colorado State (16-7, 8-4 MW) offensively. Devos scored a team-high 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting and added three rebounds and two assists. Tvrdy scored 14 points with nine rebounds, while Brady tallied 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting.

Colorado State took the lead at the 5:59 mark in the first quarter and never relinquished it, allowing the Wolf Pack to tie the game once but never to take the lead. CSU led by as many as seven in the second quarter, but the score tightened as the Rams committed six turnovers early on in the period. However, the Rams were turnover-free over the last two minutes and scored six of the last eight points to take a 31-25 lead at halftime.

The Rams extended that lead to 36-26 with 7:33 to go in the third quarter, but Nevada went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to cut the CSU lead to 36-33. The advantage for CSU remained at three with CSU leading, 45-42; however, Nevada's Jade Redmon scored four points in less than a minute to start the final period and the Wolf Pack retook the lead at 46-45.

From that point, Devos answered with a  five-point run of her own, pushing the CSU lead back to 52-46 with just under eight minutes to go. Nevada went on to shrink the CSU lead back to one at 52-51, but Brady answered by scoring on the next three CSU possessions and in four of the next five to reestablish the six-point CSU lead at 63-57. That would prove to be enough to put the game out of reach, as the CSU defense held Nevada to two points over the final 3:02 of the win.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"Just a very, very good, hard-fought victory by our basketball team against a Nevada team that plays physical and makes you earn everything. I just thought we played extremely tough today. Nevada had 15 second-half offensive boards. That's a team that can be really relentless on the glass. I thought our players did a tremendous job of fighting and making some big plays late."

NOTES
- Colorado State has won 12 consecutive games against Nevada.
- Colorado State is now 12-1 all-time against the Wolf Pack and 9-0 under sixth-year head coach Ryun Williams.
