[ROUND 3 RECAP]
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Colorado State women's golf team finished the Mountain West Championship in third place – the highest finish in nearly the last decade. The Rams finished round one of the championship in eighth place, but fought back moving to fifth after the second round and up two spots in the finale to finish the Championship in third with a 31-over par 895 (306-295-294).

"We did get off to a rough start and our team was frustrated about that," Head Coach Annie Young said. "But man, did they battle the last two days. It's good to see them play to their potential; we were waiting for that all year."

CSU's third place finish and 31-over par 895 is the lowest score recorded at Mission Hills Country Club for the Rams and the lowest in the Mountain West Championships since 2011 when they carded an 889. Colorado State's six-over par 294 in the final round is also the lowest in recent memory at the Mountain West Championship.

Two Rams finished in the top-10 for the second time this season. Katrina Prendergast and Ellen Secor finished third and tied fourth place, respectfully. The pair started the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic finishing tied second and fifth, respectfully.

Katrina Prendergast led the Rams with an even par for the Championship after carding a three-under par 69 in the final round. The junior finished in third, but that wasn't her best finish at the Mountain West Championship as she started her career tied for second as a freshman.

Prendergast was at even or below-par the whole day Wednesday, recording five birdies and just two bogies.

"Today was a big day for Katrina," added Young. "She is trying to make regionals, so that is always in the back of your mind. But she stepped up and that didn't surprise me one bit. She is went out there and just competed at the highest level."

Ellen Secor signed her card with an even-par 72 in the final day, finishing the Championship tied for fourth with a one-over par. The sophomore tallied two birdies on the front nine to make the turn at even-par. On the back she came back with two more birds to close the day even.

Brooke Nolte showed signs of life in the final day, recording CSU's third best score of the day with a four-over par 76 – her best round of the Championship. The freshman marked three birdies on the day – total of the first two rounds combined.

Both Jessica Sloot and Haley Greb followed with five-over 77 in round three to help move CSU up two spots on the leaderboard. Greb finished tied for 27th in her first MW Championship, while Sloot closed tied for 30th.

"What was huge for us this week's success was the back three," continued Young. "With Jessica Sloot, Haley Greb and Brooke Nolte stepping up, it helped us get the score that we needed. They struggled from time-to-time this season, but they came ready to play this week and it was huge."

Prendergast dominated the par threes, tied for first with a 2.83 stroke average on those holes and two-under par. Secor also controlled the par-five holes leading all players with a 4.5 average with a six-under par.

"I am just proud of how they fought all season long," concluded Young. "There were times out there that weren't very good and there were times were played well and competed. This week was a great way to end the season and I feel like we belong and can compete with the best."

Colorado State will await its fate of the NCAA Regionals that are scheduled for the second week in May. Regional selections will be announced next week.
