5/10/2018 9:56:00 PM | Softball
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Colorado State softball team looked to get back into the winning column at UNLV on Thursday night, but could not, dropping the final regular series opener 5-2 at Eller Media Stadium.
UNLV starting the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back singles before a double to left drove in the first run. Bridgette Hutton fanned the next two batters before allowing another double to left which scored two more runs to give the Rebels a 3-0 advantage.
CSU's offense went cold through the heart of the game, failing to put runners aboard the third and fourth innings. UNLV added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth after a base hit scored a run. The Rebels looked to add to their lead later in the inning after advancing runners into scoring position before loading the bases via a walk, but a ground out ended the threat.
Colorado State put a couple runs on the board in the top of the fifth after Hannah McCorkhill hit her third home run of the season to left field. Danni Klein preceded the homer with a single to left to get CSU's third runner on base of the game.
The Rams put a runner on base in the final two inning, but three consecutive strikeouts in the seventh ended the game.
