Seniors Put Final Touch on Historic Regular Season

Rams Earn First Point Against Wyoming in Program History

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The weather provided the chill. The result produced the biting feeling you feel on such a day outside.

Friday afternoon at CSU Field, the CSU women's soccer team was looking to cap the best regular-season in program history with its first victory over rival Wyoming, but the two teams played to a scoreless tie.

It didn't change much for the Rams, who at 12-5-2, head to the Mountain West tournament for the first time, though the final score did mean the Cowgirls won't be participating.

Heading into the second overtime, the Rams had to turn up the heat offensively as senior midfielder Caeley Lordemann put two shots on net which ended up being saved in the final minute. As the game resulted in a draw, the only thing Lordemann wanted was more time for her team to gain their first win against the Cowgirls.

"I would've kept playing after the second overtime and in the dark just to give us a chance to come out on top," Lordemann said. "We spent all week focused on Wyoming, but now it's time to get ready for our first tournament. We can't look backwards as a team, we just need to keep looking forward, so I can't wait for next Tuesday and the opportunity ahead."

During her last regular season game, senior defender Halley Havlicek played every minute for the Rams, advancing her personal career record to more than 6,500 minutes with 72 starts. However, Havlicek isn't worried about her personal record, she's more proud about all the sacrifices her team has made to get where they are today.

"The feeling this year has been incredible, and I wouldn't trade the struggles and building we've done as a team for anything," Havlicek said. "It's all paid off, and to see how we've grown from my freshman to senior season is something special; I couldn't have asked for a better way to go out as a senior."

As she began her career in 2015, Havlicek has ridden with the Rams through everything. Seeing all of their struggles and how they'll face them, to reaching their goals and finding success in a historic season.

With a tie against the Cowgirls, the Rams are looking ahead to next week in preparation for their inaugural appearance in the conference tournament. After spending seven seasons with his team, coach Bill Hempen couldn't be more proud of how he's watched them grow and the success they've been able to reach.

"It's amazing knowing we're this far and we still get to compete," Hempen said. "As a unit, we enjoy being around each other. We haven't had a better week of practice than we did last week, and this team is building the identity of who they want to be. I can't wait for what's ahead, and it's a surreal feeling to all of us."

With the Rams clinching the No. 3 seed in the MW Tournament last week, they are awaiting the final conference standings and are set to face the No. 6 seed on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. MT.
