Ashley Ruiz and Jessica Jarecki earn first conference awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team swept the weekly awards as Ashley Ruiz has been named Mountain West softball Player of the Week and Jessica Jarecki earned conference Pitcher of the Week for last weekend's performances. It is the first MW weekly accolade for both players.
Ashley Ruiz – Player of the Week
- Helped lead the Rams to a 3-2 record at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic last weekend, defeating Bethune-Cookman (7-0), Utah (6-1) and No. 16 Oklahoma State (2-1). One of Colorado State's two losses came to No. 2 UCLA.
- On the week, recorded six total hits and batted .462, including five RBIs, two doubles, two home runs and slugging percentage of 1.077.
- The Rams' victory over No. 16 Oklahoma State was their first against a nationally-ranked opponent since 2009, snapping a 29-game losing streak against ranked teams.
- Against Bethune-Cookman in the opening game of the Mary Nutter, finished 3-of-4, tallying her second homer of the season. Following up on that performance, went 2-of-2 against Utah with a three-run home run.
- Was solid on both sides of the ball, striking out just once in 13 at bats and was flawless while at first recording 40 put outs with no errors.
Jessica Jarecki – Pitcher of the Week
- For the third consecutive week, led the Rams in the circle, posting a 2-0 record, which includes an upset over then-No. 16 Oklahoma State (2-1).
- Tossed two complete game victories, allowing just two earned runs, 11 hits and striking out 10 batters on the weekend.
- Against nationally-ranked Oklahoma State, which entered the contest averaging almost six runs a game, allowed only four hits entering the final frame and had struck out six batters (one in four of the first five innings).
- Played a crucial role in helping the Rams snap a 29-game losing streak to ranked opponents dating back to the 2009 season.
