Rams split season opener at Bobcat Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Colorado State softball team began the 2019 season splitting games against Texas State and Abilene Christian on Saturday at the Bobcat Classic
Game One vs. Texas State | Box Score
The Rams got down early, as the Bobcats scored four runs in the bottom of the first frame and added to their lead in the third and fourth inning to lead 7-0. Colorado State got on the board in the bottom of the sixth after Lauren Buchanan knocked an infield single to score Amber Nelson and in the seventh frame as Danni Klein blasted a solo homer to left field.
Bridgette Hutton was given the loss after starting the game and hurling four frames, giving up six hits and seven walks. Taylor Gilmore made her first collegiate appearance for the Rams, throwing the last three innings and not allowing a hit and striking out three batters.
The Rams tallied seven hits in the loss, led by Danni Klein who recorded two RBI and two runs scored.
Game Two vs. Abilene Christian | Box Score
Colorado State got on the board first in the third inning after Haley Donaldson made contact at the dish to score Ashley Michelena and Amber Nelson hit a double to left center to push Corina Gamboa across to lead 2-0.
The Rams kept the Wildcats at bay and added to their lead in the sixth frame with three runs that started from Tara Shadowen with a double, followed by Ashley Ruiz with a sacrifice fly to score Isabella Navarro and capped by Ashley Michelena who was called safe with a fielding error.
Abilene Christian avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jessica Jarecki threw the complete game earning her first collegiate win as a Ram, recording four strikeouts and allowing just one hit and one run in 22 batters faced.
Ashley Michelena, Haley Donaldson and Isabella Navarro each tallied two hits, as the Rams recorded four doubles in the win.
