Rams sweep final day of Bobcat Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Colorado State softball team finished the Bobcat Classic with a 2-0 mark on Sunday, with wins over Abilene Christian and UTSA.
Game One vs. Abilene Christian | Box Score
Both teams went scoreless through the first four frames before Abilene Christian scored in the top of the fifth after a double to left scored two runs. The Rams responded in the bottom of half of the inning as Isabella Navarro started the frame with a homer to left field.
In the next inning, Colorado State took the lead after a two-out single by Amber Nelson got the Rams started. Lauran Buchanan followed with a double and advanced to third on an error to tie the game 2-2. Navarro gave CSU its lead in the next at bat with another double to score Buchanan.
Game Two vs. UTSA | Box Score
Colorado State took control from the start of the game as Amber Nelson hit a two-out double down the left-field line to score Klein and give CSU an early 1-0 lead.
The Rams kept the Roadrunners quiet, allowing them just two runs through the first four frames. Colorado State added to its lead in the fourth with RBI singles from Ashley Ruiz and Ashley Michelena.
Colorado State pushed its lead to four in the top of the fifth after a Haley Donaldson homer. The Rams allowed just one hit the rest of the game – a single in the sixth.

Head Coach Jen Fisher on the season opening weekend…
"I thought we played really well and got solid pitching performances. Bridgette Hutton, Taylor Gilmore and Jessica Jarecki did a really nice job. Isabella Navarro was playing really well and it was great to see her get a couple big RBIs against Abilene Christian in the first game today. I thought we played good defense and I think we could have had a little better showing against Texas Sate. We were struggling with the weather being cold and rainy."
Head Coach Fisher on what she saw in the opening weekend…
"I think it shows us that we might not be the greatest in every category, but if we pitch and hit well, play good defense, and run the bases smart, we'll be pretty good. We just need to keep the confidence and consistency. We also see that we have some help for Bridgette this year and we feel pretty good about that."
STAT OF THE DAY
The Colorado State pitching staff allowed just nine hits on the day, while striking out nine batters. Jessica Jarecki earned her second win of the season after throwing a complete-game shutout against UTSA.
