Davis’ 21 points not enough to overcome Rams’ slow start in 60-49 setback to Wyoming

Rams’ Liah Davis finishes with career highs in points (21), rebounds (nine) and steals (three)
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Sophomore center Liah Davis tallied a career high 21 points, but the Colorado State women's basketball team was unable to overcome a four-point first quarter in a 60-49 setback to the Wyoming Cowgirls in a Saturday afternoon Border War contest from Moby Arena.
Davis scored her career-high 21 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the floor and 9-for-12 shooting from the free throw line. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native added career-best performances in each of the rebounding (nine) and steals (three) categories. Senior forward Tatum Neubert tallied 12 points on 5-for-12 shooting. Sophomore guard Lore Devos finished with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting.
Colorado State (8-14, 2-9 MW) improved its shooting in each quarter, finishing the with a fourth-quarter field goal percentage of 62.5 (5-for-8) as well as a second-half field goal percentage of 52.4 (11-for-21). Over the final three quarters, CSU outscored Wyoming (14-5, 7-3 MW), 45-44.
However, Colorado State managed only four points in the opening period of the game on 16.7 percent shooting (2-for-12). Wyoming countered with 53.8 percent (7-for-13) shooting over the game's first 10 minutes, outscoring the Rams 16-4 heading to the second. That 12-point advantage proved to be enough for Wyoming to put the game out of reach, as the Rams pulled the deficit within eight in the fourth quarter but could get no closer.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"A struggle all night offensively to find any rhythm and anybody we could play through. Wyoming makes it difficult. I thought our kids battled. We held them to 60 points; I think they lead the league in scoring. We kept fighting. Offensively, not enough bullets, not enough playmakers to get anything going tonight."
NOTES
The Colorado State women's basketball team is on the road on Wednesday to face the San Diego State Aztecs. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. PT from Viejas Arena.
