Rams drop first home contest of the season

4/12/2019 7:46:00 PM | Softball

Colorado State dropped the first game of the series against UNLV to suffer its first home loss of the season.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team suffered its first home loss of the season, 6-5 against UNLV in the first game of the series on Friday afternoon at Ram Field.

STAT OF THE GAME
Colorado State recorded four extra-base hits, including a pair of triples.

IN THEIR WORDS
Head Coach Jen Fisher on the game…
"We are a little bit baffled why our offense seems a little less confident than they should be. We need to work on that and we need to realize that we are in a tough part of the season. Everyone is going to be gunning for us. Staying confident and focused is going to be huge for our offense and putting the good kind of pressure on ourselves, not the bad."

Rams 5, Rebels 6 | Box Score

Colorado State's defense was solid to start the game, allowing five baserunners in the first three frame, but kept UNLV from scoring a run. The Rams took the lead in the bottom of the third, recording seven hits, including a pair of triples and a double, to score five runs and lead the game.

UNLV returned fire in the follow frame, tie the game with five runs on five hits. The Rebels took the lead on an RBI single in the top of the sixth and kept the Rams' offense quiet the rest of the game despite CSU putting a pair of runners on in the final inning.

NOTES
- Seven different Rams recorded a hit, including three having two hits
- Tara Shadowen led the Rams recording two RBI
- Ashley Michelena grabbed her seventh stolen base of the season
- Bridgette Hutton (12-3) was given the loss, hurling the complete game allowing all six runs and striking out four
- Colorado State forced UNLV to strand 10 baserunners
- This is the Rams first loss of the year at home
