Rams complete come back, set up rubber match against UNLV

4/13/2019 3:47:00 PM | Softball

Colorado State scored four unanswered runs to force crucial rubber match for Sunday.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team completed another come back to secure a 7-5 win over UNLV to force a pivotal rubber match on Sunday afternoon. A Colorado State win would give it a 5.5 game lead in the Mountain West standings. The Rams sit atop the league, followed by the Rebels.

STAT OF THE GAME
Tara Shadowen was explosive from the dish, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, including hitting her seventh homer of the season.

IN THEIR WORDS
Head Coach Jen Fisher on the win…
"I like how we kept responding even though we gave up a couple runs. A heck of a day for both Tara Shadowen and Amber Nelson. We really needed that. For everyone to battle and have quality at bats all the way through the game is great. I thought we really punched UNLV back every time they punched."

Fisher on the two-out hitting…
"Even two strike hitting during this game was great – Tara's homerun was with two strikes, Amber's two doubles had two strikes – which is what we tried to focus on last night and this morning. You're never done; you might look ugly on one swing, but you make an in-bat adjustment. That is a very mature and mental skill and it's really good to see."

Rams 7, Rebels 5 | Box Score

UNLV took an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning before extending it in the second, scoring on a double play. Colorado State tied the game in the home-half of the second frame, after Ashley Ruiz hit a RBI before Tara Shadowen homer to right center.

The Rebels responded in the third with two runs to lead, 5-3. The Rams got within one in the third before taking the lead in the fourth off an Amber Nelson home run. CSU added an insurance run in the fifth after Isabella Navarro pushed a run across.

NOTES
- The Rams were effective with two outs going 10-for-16
- Amber Nelson added to the Rams' offense finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs score, including hitting her sixth homer of the season
