Nelson named Mountain West Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State softball player, Amber Nelson has been named the Mountain West softball Player of the Week for last weekend's performances. It is the second MW weekly accolade for Nelson – (March 12).
 
The Rams will continue Mountain West Conference action and head to second-place Nevada for a three-game series starting Thursday at 5 p.m., MT. Colorado State carries a program-best 31-6 record and a 13-2 mark in the Mountain West – the best record since the league formed in 1999-2000.
 
For the first time in over 21 years, the Colorado State softball team is ranked in this week's USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll entering at No. 25. The Rams were last ranked on March 4, 1998 and were No. 23. That season CSU finished 37-15 overall and 13-7 in the Mountain West finishing second.
 
Amber Nelson – Player of the Week
- Played a vital role in the weekend series vs. UNLV, leading the Rams to a 2-1 record (L, 6-5; W, 7-5; W, 4-2) which kept CSU in first place in league standings.
- Led Colorado State from the dish, finishing 6-of-9 with three doubles and three runs scored, while posting a .667 batting average, 1.333 slugging mark and a .727 on base percentage.
- Although the Rams dropped the first game of the series, Nelson recorded a pair of hits including a double.
- In the fourth inning of the second game with the Rams down by one, hit a two-run home run, lifting the Rams to a 6-5 lead, which the squad held for the remainder of the game. The homer was the sixth in her career.
