Rams Start Fall Schedule This Weekend

FORT COLLINS, Colo – After a historic 39-12 finish last season, Colorado State's softball team is ready to kick off its 2019 fall schedule.

Just after the players finished their afternoon conditioning, they didn't take much time to get outside and start hitting. A winning culture is built from within, and this team is using their time before the spring to develop and learn everything they can to improve off of their record breaking season last year.

"Playing some Division I competition with two, three new catchers and a couple young pitchers is going to help us grow a lot," head coach Jen Fisher said. "Our goal is to get them out there and comfortable in our system and then work throughout the winter into the spring."

The Rams will start with a fun outing, their alumni game at Ram Field on Saturday at 12 p.m. From there, they head into an eight-game fall slate, opening with Metro State at noon on Sunday, the only contest to be played in Fort Collins.

They then embark for five road games, including two doubleheaders against Idaho State and Nebraska.

"It's a great schedule; it's always been great for us to get out to Nebraska and play, because it's a bigger stage that hosts regional appearances," Fisher said. "We try to get these nervous feelings out right away so that we're not surprised by anything come this spring."

The Rams will have a tough pre-conference schedule heading into the spring but that's not stopping this group from setting the bar high and continuing to build upon their culture. None of the games will show up in the standings, but the players understand the value they carry in setting a tone for when the scores start to count.

"We need to keep building off of the foundation that we built last year," outfielder Tara Shadowen said. "We've added a lot more depth in our lineup for pitching and catching, so we're focusing a lot on getting them ready for this spring."

The standard Fisher has placed on her athletes after last season hasn't changed, and as a unit, these Rams are ready to expand, realizing the seeds for success in the spring have to be planted in the fall.
