Four-team field opens play at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the third consecutive weekend, the Rams are hitting the courts, but this time they get to sleep in their own beds.
Colorado State's women's tennis team will host three other squads at the Jon Messick Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the CSU Outdoor Tennis Complex. Play both days begins at 10 a.m.
"We're excited," head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We're going to build upon the last two weekends, and it's our last competitive tournament until regionals. We want to finish on a good note before we get a bunch of practice days. This weekend gives us another idea of what we want to work on."
Each day will feature singles and doubles play, each broken up into A and B groups. Colorado, New Mexico State and Northern Colorado supply the opposition.
After two tournaments, the Rams have three players with five singles wins – Emily Luetschwager (5-1), Priscilla Palermo (5-1) and Stella Cliffe (5-2). In doubles, Cliffe and Luetschwager are 3-1, as are Palermo and Alyssa Grijalva.
The home event brings the added bonus of being able to recognize Messick, who guided men's and women's programs for more than 30 combined seasons.
"It's also great to honor Jon, and we're grateful to have an invite in his name, and he'll be out there," Camerota said. "I'd love to see a bunch of fans out to come see the Rams play and say hello to Jon."
