Rams Beat Lobos 1-0 in OT Thriller, Ties Program Win Record

9/27/2019 8:18:00 PM | Women's Soccer

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As often as she amazes, the Rams never tire of her feats.

"Thank goodness Caeley [Lordemann] plays for us;  she's got all three overtime game-winners and she's proven to be a clutch performer for us," Colorado State head women's soccer coach Bill Hempen said of his senior. "We had good offensive play the whole game,  and this was a great way to start this season as we enter our conference schedule."

Colorado State began Mountain West play on Friday afternoon at CSU Field, and after 90-minutes of scoreless play, the Rams went into another overtime thriller and beat New Mexico, 1-0, for the first time in program history.

The Rams were in a tight game, and after 90 minutes of scoreless play they headed into overtime against the Lobos , until  Lordemann did it again with her fourth game-winning goal in OT this season.

"I trusted Gracie [Armstrong] with the final shot and when it got deflected I was in the perfect position to get a shot on net," Lordemann said. "I got a little lucky but when I saw the opportunity I was able to take advantage and score."

This goal marks her sixth game winner in her career as well as sixth goal for this season alone. Lordemann broke her personal single-season record (five goals) for most goals in a season and is carving her name in the CSU record book. The Rams still have half of their regular-season schedule to play and only plan on turning things up.

This victory ties the Rams program record for most wins in a season (6-2-1) and they're only getting started. On Sunday the Rams will play at San Diego State and to try and keep up their momentum as they play their second conference game of the season.

Heading into this game, redshirt sophomore Alyssa Yoshida wanted to create an impact as she made her first start after missing all of the 2018 season due to a knee injury.

"It was a surreal feeling to be able to come back out here with 29 of my best friends," Yoshida said. "The support from my teammates for me to come back made me feel really comfortable and that i'm in the right place, so I'm glad to finally be back and healthy."
