SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Colorado State women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the San Diego State Aztecs in the Rams' conference road opener Sunday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck.
The Rams moved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Aztecs improved to 2-6-1 (1-1 MW).
The first half was back-and-forth until SDSU's junior forward Chloe Frisch netted a goal in the 41st minute to break the scoreless tie. At the break, the Rams had the advantage on shots (8-to-7) and corners (4-to-2) with both teams notching three saves.
Four of those eight first-half shots came from sophomore forward Kristen Noonan who continued to put on the pressure in the second half with a close header in the 50th minute.
Shortly after in the 52nd minute, SDSU tacked on another goal to take the 2-0 lead. This time Frisch slipped a pass into the box to freshman forward Rachelle Elve who had a one-on-one with Rams' goalie Gabi McDonald and capitalized.
With the two-goal cushion, the Aztecs were able to play defensively the rest of the half to hold off any Ram comeback.
A lot like the first half, the statistics did not sway heavily to either side. The Rams finished with 10 shots and three on target, while the Aztecs had 12 with six on goal. In the net, McDonald tallied four saves.
Colorado State returns home for preparation of next weekend's away trip to Colorado Springs, Colo. First, the Rams will play Colorado College on Friday, Oct. 4th at 7 p.m., and then will meet with Air Force Sunday at noon.
