Coach's Corner
Head Coach Ryun Williams
On returning to Moby Arena…
"We need a win and we have to protect our home court. Help us out Ram fans. I like this basketball team a lot. I think we they are easy to support. Air Force is an aggressive team that has pressured us in the past, so that won't be any different. We will have to handle it, because it better than we did at New Mexico, because they are even better at it. We have to come ready to go and win those toughness areas, because Air Force is a good basketball team. Rams Fans, come out and support us on Saturday in getting this win and gain some traction."
Off The Tip
• Last time out, the Rams suffered from a lopsided third quarter to fall 73-62 against the Lobos at The Pit. A one-point CSU halftime lead evaporated after UNM sank six of its 11 made 3s of the game in the third frame to help outscore the Rams 26-11. Despite a 13-6 run to start the last quarter and pull within seven points, the Rams were unable to shrink the gap as UNM, the MW's third-best scoring offense, responded down the stretch to secure its eighth season win at home. Guard Tori Williams had a team-high 17 points and five 3s - both tying a season high - to go along with three assists.
• Forwards Andrea Brady and Makenzie Ellis have been the Rams' stalwart as of late. At UNM, Andrea Brady finished a rebound shy of what would of been her fifth double-double of the season, but she settled with her 11th double-digit scoring game. Against San Jose State, she etched her name atop of the CSU single-game record list after pulling in 23 rebounds - the first 20+ board game since Ellen Nystrom did so on 3/10/15. Ellis has double-digit scoring games in seven of the past nine contests. Since the turn of the calendar, graduate transfer has poured in 66 points in four games (16.5 ppg). She was named College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week for the MW after her 41 points against Nevada and Wyoming.
• Defense continues to be the Rams' specialty. Eight times this season CSU, the MW third-best scoring defense (60.6 ppg), has held an opponent to less than 60 points. Five times this season the Rams have kept its counterpart below 50 points - a feat not replicated in the conference.
• Eleven times this season, CSU held its opponent to under 10 points in a quarter including four times it has been under five points.
• Ball control continues to thrive for the Rams. CSU has had less turnovers than its opponent in all but three games (UIW, BSU, NM), ranking first in the Mountain West in turnovers per game (11.4), which checks in fourth nationally. The turnover margin (+4.41) is third in the MW and 36th in the NCAA. In all but four games (SDSU, BSU, TUL, NM), the Rams have scored more points off of the turnovers than its counterpart.
• Redshirt-senior forward Andrea Brady has pulled in a team-high 155 rebounds, which ranks third in the Mountain West and 37th in the NCAA. Average-wise that pans out to 9.1 a game for third in the conference and 58th nationally. She has five double-digit board games with a high of 23 and has had at least six in all but two games. She is on pace for 273.4 rebounds which would put her in CSU's all-time top-10 single-season record list.
