FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After a week-long break, Colorado State will host San Jose State Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. MT inside Moby Arena.

The Rams (8-7, 2-2 MW) stand fifth place in the Mountain West and look to win their third game in a row. Meanwhile, the Spartans (10-6, 4-1 MW) reside in second place and are fresh off a 72-70 overtime victory at Nevada for their third road conference win of the season.

The matchup aims to be a battle of opposites with the Spartans leading the MW in scoring offense (79.9 ppg) and the Rams representing the second-best scoring defense (59.9 ppg) in the conference.

SJSU holds a one-game winning streak in the series but have never won two in a row against CSU. Prior to last year's win by SJSU, the Rams had won a series-best seven consecutive against the Spartans. Also, the Rams held a nine-game win streak against the Spartans in Fort Collins before last season's defeat.

Coach's Corner
Head Coach Ryun Williams
On the matchup…
"San Jose State is always difficult to defend with their fast, up-tempo playing style. They put a lot of shooters out there on the floor but can also attack off the dribble. It puts tremendous pressure on your defensive concept, so we just have to collectively be in-tuned to what is going on and make sure we are contesting shots all game."

On coming off the Wyoming win and back at home…
"This team has been fun to coach and watch all year, so it is nice to get a few wins under our belt. They [the team] are coming. I can see the growth and competitiveness each game and practice as we move along. Moby Arena is a special place on Saturdays when there are people in the seats, so we are excited for another one."

Off The Tip
• Last time out, the Rams handed the Wyoming Cowgirls their first loss, 56-49, of the conference season in the Border War Part 1 of 2020. CSU led 29-28 at the half, making the Rams 7-2 when leading at the break. For the second straight game, graduate Makenzie Ellis upped her career mark in points. In the fourth quarter alone, Ellis scored 12 points - the most any CSU player has scored in any quarter all season - to total 22 points. Three of her team-high eight rebounds also came in the last frame. Nine of the Rams' 10 free throws made occurred in the fourth quarter to secure the win. The Rams forced Wyoming into 15 turnovers – the most by the Cowgirls in their four Mountain West games this season.

• Following her back-to-back career games, Makenzie Ellis was named College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week for the Mountain West. She totaled 41 points in the two contests, tying the most among players in the conference.

• Ball control continues to thrive for the Rams. CSU has had less turnovers than its opponent in all but two games (UIW, BSU), ranking first in the Mountain West in turnovers per game (11.1), which checks in fourth nationally. The turnover margin (+4.67) is third in the MW and 36th in the NCAA. In all but three games (SDSU, BSU, TUL), the Rams have scored more points off of the turnovers than its counterpart.

• Defense continues to be the Rams' specialty. Seven times this season CSU, the MW second-best scoring defense (59.9 ppg), has held an opponent to less than 60 points. Five times this season the Rams have kept its counterpart below 50 points - a feat not replicated in the conference. Eleven times this season, CSU held its opponent to under 10 points in a quarter including four times it has been under five points.

• Redshirt-senior forward Andrea Brady has pulled in a team-high 123 rebounds, which ranks sixth in the Mountain West and 70th in the NCAA. Average-wise that pans out to 8.2 a game for third in the conference and 116th nationally. She has four double-digit board games with a high of 15 and has had at least six in all but two games. For the season, she is on pace for 246 rebounds which would put her near the top-10 in CSU's all-time single-season record list for boards.

Scouting San Jose State Spartans
• The San Jose State Spartans have gone into overtime in each of its past two games this week. On Sunday, SJSU fell to first-place Fresno State, 85-76. The Spartans were pinned to finish last in the MW after finishing ninth last season.
• The Spartans enter having won eight of their last 11 conference games, the most recent victory coming at Nevada on Wednesday. In the early Mountain West play, San Jose State defeated Utah State and San Diego State each by double digits. Their lone conference loss is to Fresno State in overtime.
• Forward Tyra Whitehead, a Wake Forest transfer, ranks No. 9 in all of Division I and is first in the Mountain West with 162 rebounds. Her seven double-doubles on the season slots her at second in the conference and 17th nationally in that category.
• Sophomore Ayzhiana Basallo is playing as well as any guard in the country, ranking 13th nationally in points per game (20.4) and No. 11 in assists with 5.6 per game.
