Rams Face Aztecs in Monday’s Senior Night

Four seniors mark pre-game festivities before taking on San Diego State.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In Moby Arena's season finale, Colorado State will honor four seniors prior to the 7 p.m. tip against San Diego State on Monday due to the expedited final week of the season.

Andrea Brady, Makenzie Ellis, Myanne Hamm and Roichelle Marble will be celebrated in a pre-game senior night recognition. Brady, Ellis and Marble each came to Fort Collins as a transfer. Brady became a Ram in 2017 from Salt Lake Community College. Ellis and Marble each arrived looking to continue playing collegiately while pursuing a graduate degree as they obtained undergraduate degrees from Southern Methodist and Wisconsin, respectively. Hamm, the hometown kid, attended nearby Poudre High School and is the longest-tenured Ram having been in the green and gold since fall of 2014.

Way back in December, the Rams (12-15, 6-10 MW) traveled to San Diego State (12-16, 7-9 MW) for the conference opener. The Aztecs kept CSU at bay with three buzzer-beating shots to end the first three quarters and thwart any momentum. The Rams did make it a five-point game in the fourth quarter, but six scoreless from the Aztecs sealed the deal. Not present due to injuries was two current starters, Lore Devos and Tori Williams, in addition to Hamm.

The December loss evened up the all-time series between the two schools at 29-all. However, Moby Arena is where CSU has had its most success against SDSU to a tone of 16-10. The Rams have won the last five meetings in Fort Collins with SDSU's last Moby Arena win occurring in 2013.

Mountain West Outlook
Within the Mountain West standings, CSU currently stands in eighth with two remaining games before the conference tournament at the start of March. The Rams look for a series sweep against Air Force on Thursday and a split versus San Diego State.

Off The Tip
• Last time out, the Rams erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to bring the margin to two points but could not capitalize further, resulting in a 69-64 defeat to San Jose State on Saturday. The Mountain West's leading scorer, Ayzhiana Basallo, had nine of her game-high 16 points in the fourth. CSU had less turnovers than SJSU in addition to outshooting and rebounding the home team but shot 37.1 percent to the Spartans' 42.9 clip. For the first time since the season opener, Lore Devos found herself in the starting lineup, finishing with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

• During conference play, Andrea Brady and Makenzie Ellis have been the Rams' stalwarts. Ellis has 11 double-digit scoring games in MW play and has poured in 174 (12.4 ppg) points in the 14 games after the pre-holiday MW games. Brady has compiled 125 rebounds (7.8 rpg) with 162 points (10.1 ppg) in conference play with highs of 23 points against Boise State and a school record 23 rebounds against San Jose State, which also stands fourth in NCAA DI this season. As of late, Tori Williams has put in consecutive 15-point games and Jamie Bonnarens is averaging 12.2 ppg over the last five contests.

• Defense continues to be the Rams' specialty. Fifteen times this season CSU, the MW second-best scoring defense (59.9 ppg), has held an opponent to 60 points or less. Seven times it has been below 50 points - a feat not replicated in the MW. Eighteen times this season, CSU held its opponent to under 10 points in a quarter including four times it has been under five points.

• Ball control continues to be a strength for the Rams. CSU has had equal or less turnovers than its opponent in all but five games (UIW, BSU, NM, AFA, at NEV), ranking first in the Mountain West in turnovers per game (10.9), which checks in second nationally. The turnover margin (+4.26) is second in the MW and 37th in the NCAA. In all but eight games (SDSU, BSU, TUL, NM, UNLV, FS, UNLV, SJSU), the Rams have scored more points off of the turnovers than its counterpart.

• Redshirt-senior forward Andrea Brady has pulled in a team-high 222 rebounds, which ranks sixth in the Mountain West and 86th in the NCAA. Average-wise that pans out to 8.2 a game for fifth in the conference and 118th nationally. She has five double-digit board games with a high of 23 and has had at least six in all but five games. She is on pace (8.2 rpg) for 247 rebounds which would put her near CSU's all-time top-10 single-season record list with two regular season games remaining and at least one Mountain West tournament game.

What to Watch For? (Stats based on all games)
• San Diego State Scoring Offense (7th in MW) vs. Colorado State Scoring Defense (2nd in MW)
• San Diego State FG % Defense (1st in MW) vs. Colorado State FG%  (9th in MW)
• San Diego State Turnover Margin (10th in MW) vs. Colorado State Turnover Margin  (2nd in MW)
• SDSU Sophia Ramos (4th ppg, 9th in rpg in MW) vs. CSU's Andrea Brady (6th in MW in rpg)

More on San Diego State Aztecs
• San Diego State has the conference's best 3-point field goal percentage (.358), however the Aztecs have taken the least amount of treys with 226 attempts compared to CSU's 370.
• SDSU's seven wins in conference, matches their win total from a year ago when they went 7-11.
• Sophia Ramos has three games this season with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Only Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu, the reigning national player of the year, has done it more times.
• Taylor Kalmer has scored in double-digits in 22 straight games, the longest streak by an Aztec in the MW era (1999-present). She's in the top 3 in the MW in minutes per game, field goal attempts and field goals made.

In Game One vs. SDSU (12/4/19; more on page 9 of game notes)
• The last time these two squared off, the Rams were 5-3 and the Aztecs were 3-5 and it was the MW opener.
• CSU was without Tori Williams, Lore Devos and Myanne Hamm due to injuries therefore played seven players.
• The Aztecs hit buzzer beaters in the first, second and third quarter. To end the first frame, SDSU drained their fourth 3 for a 28-12 lead. CSU brought it to six until Taylor Kalmer hit a two, making it an eight-point game at half. It would of been a five-point game going into the fourth when Taylor Kalmer hit a two for the 43-36 lead.
• Two Jamie Bonnarens free throws brought it to a five-point game with 3:37 left in regulation, but a 6-0 SDSU run put the Aztecs past the double-digit lead again, which wasn't relinquished.
