Colorado State Closes Out the Regular Season on Thursday Evening at Air Force
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – To conclude the regular season, Colorado State will travel the approximate two hours due south for a Thursday 6:30 p.m. MT contest against Air Force inside Clune Arena.
The Rams (12-16, 6-11 MW) look to gain their fourth road win of the season while spoiling the Falcons' Senior Day. With Air Force (8-20) also at 6-11 in the Mountain West, the game is a large determinant on seeding for the Mountain West Championships that start Sunday in Las Vegas. The Falcons can potentially be as high as No. 7, while the Rams' ceiling is the No. 8 spot with head-to-head opponent records coming into play.
On the third Saturday of January, the Rams powered past the Falcons, 60-40 – Colorado State's largest margin among its six Mountain West victories. The Rams jumped on the Falcons early with a 23-point first quarter en route to a 60-40 win at Moby Arena. USAFA shot 28.8 percent from the field, while CSU fared a 48 percent clip led by a Makenzie Ellis team-high 19 points and eight points.
In the all-time series, CSU holds the significant advantage at 50-12 and is working on their third-straight win against the foes on the other side of Denver. The Rams lost last season's contest at the Academy but had won the previous 10 meetings in Clune Arena.
Mountain West Tournament Seeding Outlook
Within the Mountain West standings, CSU and USAFA currently are tied in eighth going into the regular season finale before the conference tournament, starting Sunday in Las Vegas. The locks are regular season champions Fresno State at No. 1, Boise State at No. 2 and Utah State at No. 11.
Depending on Thursday's outcomes around the league, CSU will be anywhere from the No. 8 seed to No. 10 seed. More info and scenarios is found on page 13 on game notes
No. 7/8 Seeds:
• If Nevada loses to San Diego State and Colorado State defeats Air Force, Nevada would be the No. 7 seed due to a 0-1 record against Fresno State compared to Colorado State's 0-2 record against Fresno State. Colorado State would then be the No. 8 seed. Nevada and Colorado State split the head-to-head series this season, 1-1.
• If Nevada loses to San Diego State and Air Force defeats Colorado State, Air Force is the No. 7 seed due to a 1-1 record against Fresno State, compared to Nevada's 0-1 record against them. Nevada would then be the No. 8 seed. Air Force and Nevada split the head-to-head series this season, 1-1.
No. 9/10 Seed:
• The losing team of the Colorado State at Air Force game would earn the No. 9 seed if Utah State defeats New Mexico. New Mexico would then be the No. 10 seed.
• If Colorado State loses to Air Force and New Mexico wins against Utah State, New Mexico would be the No. 9 seed due to a 1-0 head-to-head record against Colorado State. Colorado State would be the No. 10 seed.
• If Air Force loses to Colorado State and New Mexico wins against Utah State, Air Force would be the No. 9 seed due to a 1-1 record against Fresno State, compared to an 0-2 record against them from New Mexico. New Mexico would then be the No. 10 seed. Air Force and New Mexico split the head-to-head series this season 1-1.
Off The Tip
• Last time out, the Rams had their Senior Night turn bittersweet after giving up a fourth-quarter lead and falling in overtime to San Diego State, 64-61. The Rams went 2-21 in the fourth quarter and five-minute overtime period. It marked CSU's ninth loss by less than five or less points and the second overtime loss in as many tries this season. Senior Andrea Brady recorded her third game of at least 20 points this season and had a team-high nine rebounds as did Tori Williams.
• During conference play, Makenzie Ellis has 12 double-digit scoring games in MW play for team-best 11.1 points per game. Brady has compiled 134 rebounds (7.8 rpg, tied with USAFA's Conroe) with 182 points (10.7 ppg) with highs of 23 points against Boise State and a CSU record 23 rebounds against San Jose State, which also stands fourth in NCAA DI this season. As of late, Tori Williams has put in three-straight double-digit games with Jamie Bonnarens doing so in the past two.
• Defense continues to be the Rams' specialty. Fifteen times this season CSU, the MW second-best scoring defense (60.1 ppg), has held an opponent to 60 points or less. Seven times it has been below 50 points - a feat not replicated in the MW. Nineteen times this season, CSU held its opponent to under 10 points in a quarter including four times it has been under five points.
• Ball control continues to be a strength for the Rams. CSU has had equal or less turnovers than its opponent in all but five games (UIW, BSU, NM, AFA, at NEV), ranking first in the Mountain West in turnovers per game (10.7), which checks in second nationally. The turnover margin (+4.43) is second in the MW and 34th in the NCAA. In all but nine games (SDSUx2, BSU, TUL, NM, UNLVx2, FS, SJSU), the Rams have scored more points off of the turnovers than its counterpart.

• Against San Jose State (1/11/20), Brady etched her name atop of the CSU single-game record list after pulling in 23 rebounds - the first 20+ board game since Ellen Nystrom did so on 3/10/15. Within that 23-board performance, 10 of them were on the offensive end which ties her with Keleigh Logan (12/2/92) for second all-time in CSU history.
