Both Track Teams Plus Two Student-Athletes Recognized for Academics

NEW ORLEANS – Both gender track and field programs garnered All-Academic Team honors, while Ali Kallner and Tarynn Sieg picked up individual accolades, announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The women achieved a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, which is not just the spring semester or 2019-20 academic year, but the career marks for the student-athletes on the NCAA Squad list for the Rams. The CSU women were one of 264 programs to obtain above a 3.0 GPA to receive the award and have do so now 13 years in a row.

The men wound up with a score of 3.05 to join 199 other programs across the nation. It marks the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that both CSU teams earned the academic achievement. Earlier this year, both the cross country teams also grabbed the honor for the 11th straight time.

Individually, Kallner and Sieg were named All-Academic Athletes among 659 women from 178 institutions. In order to get recognized, student-athletes had to have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher in addition to having finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event. Kallner completes her collegiate career as a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic recipient, while Sieg, a rising senior, picked up her second honor.

Kallner earned a Biochemistry Degree in May with a 3.53 final GPA and was 83rd on the national list for the indoor 3,000-meter race. In February at the Iowa State Classic, she crossed at 9:26.93, becoming CSU's record holder in the event. The Scottsdale, Arizona native is set to begin physical therapy school at the University of Iowa this fall.

Studying Health & Exercise, Science, Sieg holds a 3.56 running GPA. The Eaton High School product was one of the Rams set to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships prior to COVID-19 cancelling the event. Two weeks prior, Sieg measured a shot put of 55'6.5'' on her final attempt at the Mountain West Championships to not only win the event but also garner the nation's 12th-best throw which punched her ticket to the NCAAs and subsequently earned her USTFCCCA All-America honors.
