Colorado State earned its seventh-consecutive win as it swept the Falcons for the second time.
USAFA, Colo. – After facing Air Force in Moby Arena a mere two weeks ago it was Colorado State's turn to play on the road, but that didn't matter for the Rams as they picked up their second sweep of the season against the Falcons on Thursday night.
Â
Annie Sullivan led the Rams' offense, flooring 12 kills while hitting .400 posting just two errors in 25 swings. Karina Leber followed adding nine kills and hitting .462. The middle also controlled the net with three blocks alongside Ciera Pritchard who also tallied three. The setter also passed out 38 assists in the sweep and recorded six digs. Alexa Roumeliotis finished with eight digs for the night, but made her time from the service line count with three aces. Kennedy Stanford led the backrow with nine digs and added eight kills.
Â
The first set was the closest of the night as Air Force took the lead early and led for the majority of set. Colorado State was finally able to string points together, using a 6-1 run to take the lead at 17-16. From there the Rams extended their lead to three at 21-18, but Air Force wouldn't go down easy as it made a 4-0 run late to take a 22-21 lead. CSU responded in its end game with a 4-1 tear to grab the first, 25-23.
Â
Colorado State started all cylinders in the second, manufacturing a 7-0 run to double up the Falcons at 12-6 and never looked back. CSU used a handful of run throughout the frame as it cruised to a 25-16 set win and took a 2-0 match lead. The second set was the Rams' most efficient, hitting .312 with 15 kills and just five errors, while also dropping in a match-high five of their eight aces.
Â
The final set saw a match-high four lead changes and seven ties. Air Force started the set primed and took a 9-4 lead early. Colorado State again used a 5-0 run to take the lead at 11-10 following an AF timeout. From there the set was back and forth until the Rams made a 6-1 run to take a 21-17 lead before closing the set 25-20 to secure the sweep.
Â
Colorado State improved its series record against Air Force to 55-2 overall and have swept the Falcons 51 times. CSU has been playing well since the start of Mountain West play as it holds a 31-6 set record in league play.
Â
The Rams will stay on the road and head to New Mexico for a match on Saturday at 12 p.m., MT on the Mountain West Network.
