Rams Use Balance Attack to Sweep Wolf Pack

Colorado State had six players record 5+ kills in its fourth sweep in Mountain West play.
RENO, Nev. – Colorado State found the win column again as it swept Nevada on Thursday night for its 17th consecutive win against the Wolf Pack and moved its record to 11-0 in the Virginia Street Gym. The sweep was the 13th against Nevada and its fourth in Mountain West play this season.

Colorado State broke out of the first set to start the match, stringing together points early to lead 12-8. Nevada took the next three rallies to get within one at 12-11 and 14-13, but the Rams put the pedal down late to take the first 25-17. Kennedy Stanford paced CSU in the first with five kills, while Alexa Roumeliotis picked up 11 digs to record her 26th consecutive match with double-figure digs.

The second set was a grind for Colorado State. Nevada jumped out to a 5-1 lead early and held control for the majority of the frame. The Rams chipped away and tied it a handful of times, but never took the lead until late. CSU took a timeout trailing at 22-20 before going on a 4-0 run to grab its first lead of the set before winning the set to take a 2-0 match lead. Jacqi Van Liefde paced the Rams with three sets, while the team totaled four blocks.

Colorado State again had its work cut out as the Wolf Pack jumped out to a 4-2 lead before extending it to 9-5. From there, Nevada really put space between the two with a 6-0 run to lead 17-9 as it looked as if the 'Pack was going to avoid the sweep. The Rams responded with a 5-0 run to get within three, but Nevada again extended its lead to 21-15. A 4-0 CSU run forced Nevada to take a timeout as the Rams were back within two at 21-19. It was an all-out brawl from then on. CSU tied it at 23-23 and the two teams traded points down the stretch. Colorado State had match point at 26-25 before the Wolf Pack put back-to-back points on the board to have set point, 27-26. The Rams finally said enough was enough and finished the match on a 3-0 run to secure the sweep and victory.

Sasha Colombo floored four kills in the final frame and nine in the match to lead us. Colorado State also slammed down six blocks in the final set, to finish with 12 for the match. Karina Leber put up a team-high five blocks and added six kills while hitting .357. Alexa Roumeliotis finished with 17 digs and Ciera Pritchard dished out 33 assists.

Colorado State will stay on the road and head to San Jose State for a match on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., MT.
