First matches of Mountain West play will not be rescheduled

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Due to a positive COVID-19 test on the team and the resulting contact tracing, Colorado State has canceled this weekend's trip to San Jose, Calif., for a pair of Mountain West matches, the conference announced today.

The Rams were set to open conference play with a neutral-site Border War match with Wyoming on Saturday, followed by playing host San Jose State on Sunday. The matches will not be rescheduled. These represent the fifth and sixth matches of the season the program has had to cancel or postpone due to safety and health protocols or weather issues. Despite the setbacks, coach Jarod Camerota said his team is remaining upbeat.

"They're handling it well," he said. "I feel really bad for them, because they've put in the work and want to compete. We're sick of just practicing. We had nothing in the fall, and now it's all been in the spring, so it been bad timing and bad luck."

The next scheduled matches for the team would be April 2-3 in Colorado Springs with the Rams set to face New Mexico (Friday) and Air Force (Saturday). According to Mountain West guidelines, players who are out due to contact tracing can resume practice as soon as they clear local guidelines.
