Team finishes 3-3 in Mountain West play
LOGAN, Utah – A season which took a while to get started came to an end on the road as Colorado State's women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-2 Mountain West decision to Boise State in a neutral-site match.
Â
The Rams close the campaign with a 3-3 mark in conference play, 4-6 overall. The team had two long stretches this season between competitions, one lasting 23 days, the other 25.
Â
"I definitely think that was a solid performance for us this year," coach Jarod Camerota said. "I didn't know what to expect after the breaks, but they battled, and that was awesome. I thank the seniors and am proud of them for everything they did for the program and bettering our foundation from which to build. They were a big part of that."
Â
Seniors Lou Regen and Alyssa Grijalva posted the Rams' two victories on the day, coming at the Nos 4 and 5 singles spots, respectively. Both wins came in straight sets, with Regen producing 6-1, 6-1 scores, Grijalva closing out her victory 6-4, 6-4. Emily Luetschwager was a game away from posting a straight-sets singles win when the match came to an end.
Â
The top doubles tandem of Priscilla Palermo and Tracy Guo were close to a victory when that portion of play was halted.
Â
"We just keep finding ourselves in a battles. We lost doubles, and that was import in a really close match," Camerota said. "Alyssa and Lou rolled. They were on fire today and playing really well. Priscilla and Tracy played really good doubles, and Emily was down in her first set and came back and won. Â It was great college match."
Â
There will be a lot of turnover next season as five players exit the program with this match. Grijalva and Palermo both moved up the career lists in the final weekend, as Grijalva won both of her singles matches to give her 63 overall to rank her seventh. She also sits fourth with 59 career doubles wins, tied for ninth with 31 dual wins in doubles. Palermo is tied with Grijalva with career doubles dual wins, finishing seventh with 55 career doubles victories. Luetschwager's 52 career doubles wins rank ninth.
