Four Rams Earn All-Mountain West Honors

Shadowen highlights first team, Michelena repeats
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After being able to play somewhat of a 'normal' season, the Colorado State softball team earned four All-Mountain West honorees the Mountain West Conference announced on Wednesday.

Senior Tara Shadowen landed on the All-Mountain West First Team, making her second appearance. The outfielder leads the Rams with a .333 batting average and has registered 26 hits, including six doubles and eight home runs. She also has 19 RBI, while slugging .718 and holding an on-base mark of .409.

Senior leadoff hitter Ashley Michelena made a repeat appearance – her third honor, while sophomore Julia Cabral and grad student Haley Donaldson were selected for the first time in voting done by conference coaches. The Rams are 13-20 overall and 7-11 in the Mountain West with three games left to play in the 2021 season.

Michelena, a second-team selection in 2020 and 2019, is third on the team with a .307 average, 16 runs score, 31 hits, three triples and a .364 on-base mark. She added three stolen bases, four doubles and drove in eight runs as the Rams' table setter. She started 30 games in 2021, all in center field and as leadoff. Her 15 career triples are tied for third all-time in program history.

Cabral, earning her first postseason honor, was 4-6 from the circle with a 3.02 ERA. The sophomore appeared in 11 games, making nine starts and throwing six complete games, including a shutout against UNLV. She has hurled 58 frames with 42 strikeouts and 25 earned runs.

Donaldson, also earning her first All-Mountain West honor, has a .254 batting average with four doubles and three homers. She also has recorded 16 RBI with a .427 slugging and .300 on-base mark. While at short, she has targeted 30 putouts and 43 assists, while recording five errors for a .936 fielding percentage. She has also helped in nearly all 10 double plays for Colorado State.

Colorado State will close the 2021 campaign this weekend with a three-game series at San Jose State, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 14.
