West Regionals Start May 26th in College Station, Texas
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Twenty-one individual qualifiers from the Colorado State track & field team are set to compete 25 times at the NCAA West Preliminaries in College Station, Texas, May 26-29, held at E.B. Cushing Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Â
Of the 21, there are eight men with one – Eric Hamer – competing in two events. That leaves 13 women making the trip with three doubling. The top 48 competitors from the West will vie to place in the top 12 and earn a berth to the NCAA Championships on June 10-12 in Eugene, Ore. Late scratches for the Rams include Jessica Ozoude (200m), Morgan Stewart (Discus) and Germain Barnes (110mH, 400mH) due to injuries.
Â
There are no finals, just first and/or quarterfinal/semifinal rounds to set qualifying; in field events, there are three attempts at each discipline. There is only one qualifying event on the track in the first two days, which is the 10,000 meters for both men and women. In field events, qualifiers will be determined in the hammer, the javelin, long jump, shot put and pole vault with the men going Wednesday and women Thursday.
Â
The final two days mirror each other like the first two with the competing days separated by gender. There are nine quarterfinal rounds and two semifinals – 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m – on the track and the remaining men's field events – high jump, discus and triple jump.
